Square gets Dubai’s first BR221

UAE: Square has become the first venue in Dubai to be installed with Funktion One’s BR221 double 21-inch bass reflex cabinet. The sub was installed as part of a wider project by the manufacturer’s local representative, Emtec.
Square is one of a number of venues situated in the JW Marriott Marquis hotel. ‘It was a Lebanese restaurant and lounge but six months ago they decided to change the concept and they’ve gone with a far more club-based venue,’ said Emtec’s Andy Williams. ‘There are two parts to the venue. The first is more lounge-style while the other bit is a more full-on club.’
The club side of Square is where the BR221 can be found. The acoustically treated room is covered by a pair of Funktion One’s Resolution 2 cabinets with the BR221 providing the low frequencies. ‘They had heard Funktion One in other venues, they really liked it and they wanted to use it here,’ said Mr Williams. ‘It sounds amazing as a room, the BR221 goes so low.’
The sound system for the lounge side of the venue is equally on the large scale. Here four F1201 cabinets form the main system with a pair of F101s providing fill. Low end is catered for with a BR218 enclosure installed inside the bar.
