Terry Acres receives EV Lifetime Achievement Award

SOUTH AFRICA: Prosound founder, Terry Acres, was recently honoured with the Electro-Voice Lifetime Achievement Award for 40 years of exemplary service to the EV brand in Southern Africa. Kamil Swobodzinski, VP of EMEA sales for Electro-Voice, presented the award at a dinner for all of the Prosound staff.
The award was a first for both companies. Mr Acres commented that the partnership between EV and Prosound has been marked by a passion for good sound and the science to achieve the same reliability and consistency in products as well as in the business relationship; and importantly, an emphasis on ethical and trustworthy interaction at all times. While Mr Swobodzinski thanked Mr Acres for his input to EV and support of the product for so many years. He commended Prosound for the seamless transition into the future, while Mr Acres continues to pursue excellence in sound through training, design and activities in live music.
Prosound is the longest running Electro-Voice distributor in the world and has been practically implementing EV’s technologies since 1974. Some of the first loudspeakers used by the company were the EV LR4B columns and the horn loaded three-way Eliminator 1A. Prosound was also so intimately involved in applying the EV Constant Directivity horn flares that EV gave the company the licence to manufacture them in South Africa.
On the install side, Prosound designed and integrated the first large scale bi-amped EV sound system in the world at the brand new Ellis Park in 1982. Similarly, the company undertook the design and build of the sound systems for the Durban Playhouse theatre complex in 1985, providing EV with its first large performing arts install over four venues. A more recent highlight came at the 2010 FIFA World Cup where Prosound designed, supplied and installed the sound systems for 10 of the 11 stadia using EV solutions.
Through its rental business, the company also called on EV for a number of high-profile live events throughout the 80s and 90s. These included everything from Paul Simon’s Graceland, to the Pope, through to Nelson Mandela’s inauguration.
