The Roast Café and The Goliath Comedy Club open with new sound and light

SOUTH AFRICA: The Roast Café and The Goliath Comedy Club form a new initiative at The Venue at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg. The space has been equipped with new sound and lighting equipment calling on products from the catalogues of DWR Distribution and Tadco.
The space is a café by day and comedy club at night. Tony Raciti of The Venue along with The Goliath Brothers were approached to take the space which was a former restaurant, and convert it into a comedy club which would also serve food.
The new speaker system was supplied via Tadco and comprises six Nexo PS10 cabinets with Quest 801 enclosures installed around the space to provide delays. Control is via a DiGiCo S21 desk which was purchased through DWR.
‘The Roast Café needed a console that would not only accommodate comedy but also live acts such as bands which will take to the stage,’ noted DWR’s Kyle Robson. ‘The console allows a preset setting for the various events making it easy for any operator to use.’
On the lighting side, Robe is the manufacturer of choice for the project. ‘We installed three lighting bars manufactured by Rob Young and his team at our office,’ explained Schalk Botha from DWR. ‘We incorporated two Robe Robin miniPointes, two Robin LEDBeam 100s, a Robin DLS, an Avolites Titan One control system and a Le Maitre MVS hazer. A mixture of Longman LED fittings also forms part of the rig. Tony likes LED technology and all the fixtures except the miniPointes are LED. That said the miniPointes are known for their exceptionally long lamp life.’
'The technology is amazing and all performers have been blown away,’ enthused Kate Goliath from Goliath and Goliath. ‘Artists on stage have appreciated being on stage and being able to look out at the audience and seeing everyone. This enables them to feel the crowd. The lighting has also create a warm and inviting space and for the performers, this is spot on.’
