SOUTH AFRICA: Internationally renowned lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe and lighting programmer Roland Greil will be hosting a lighting design workshop on Friday 21 April at Johannesburg UJ Arts Centre. The free-to-attend seminar runs from 9am to 5pm and is organised by DWR Distribution in conjunction with its media partner, Pro-System.
Mr Woodroffe and Mr Greil will explore the history of rock ‘n’ roll lighting with references to their careers. The 2012 London Olympics, Michael Jackson’s This Is It show and a recent Adele concert will all be used as case studies.
Mr Woodroffe has lit and directed for some of the music’s biggest stars, including The Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga, ABBA and Bob Dylan. He has worked on the Vienna State Opera and Finnish National Opera as well as the Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera 25th anniversary concerts for Cameron Mackintosh.
Mr Greil freelances as a lighting programmer, lighting designer and lighting director who has worked with a number of internationally recognised artists. He presented the Bigger Picture Video and Lighting Workshop with DWR last year.
