24-channel, 24-pre BlackBox Recorder unveiled

A new flagship yet compact BlackBox Recorder featuring 24 microphone preamps custom developed in-house by JoeCo has been unveiled recently. Named the BBR1MP, the 24-channel unit operates at up to 24-bit/96kHz and comes in a 1U format.

Primarily designed with the broadcast engineer and sound location recordist in mind, the BBR1MP providers its users with a range of connectivity options including individually switchable mic/line inputs, balanced outputs, video sync, timecode and world clocks. Installing the optional Dante or Madi interface cards will add 24 channels of Dante or Madi I/Os to the device. Sources can be connected to the box via tails from the D-Sub connectors or via an optional 2U breakout panel with XLR connectors.

Recordings are written directly to an attached USB 2.0/3.0 external HDD in Broadcast WAV format, however users are also able to create a simultaneous stereo mixdown, for example to allow for the creation of an on-site monitor mix. Full support for the iXML data format is also included. For on-location recordists the device can be powered from a 12V source with the ability to disable unused channels and features to preserve battery life.

In addition, the unit is ‘fully-controllable’ via JoeCoRemote for iPad providing functionality such as the ability to set up individual mic pre channel parameters including level, mic/line selection, phantom power, hi-pass filter, soft limiter and phase switching.
