4K and 3D workflows from DeckLink 4K Extreme

Described as an ‘all in one solution’ that allows a user to gain access to 4K and 3D workflows, Blackmagic Design’s DeckLink 4K Extreme is a new PCI express capture card that includes all the features found in the brand’s DeckLink HD Extreme 3D card. Where it differs is that it offers 4K playback – which the manufacturer claims is ‘four times the resolution of 1080HD video’. Adding to its improved feature set is a much faster PCI express Generation 2 connection to match higher resolution video standards.

Using only two BNC SDI cables, DeckLink 4K Extreme works to extend the video quality of the DeckLink family, and boasts an extensive feature set. This includes HDMI 1.4 frame packing 3D, full SDI 3D capture and playback modes for the widest compatibility with all 3D workflows, in addition to hardware up, down and cross conversion functionality so customers can edit in SD and play out HD, or edit in HD and play out SD, 12-bit hardware architecture, 3 Gb/s SDI, support for up to 1080p60 in SDI, component analogue and HDMI connections, as well as full SD, HD, 2K and 4K playback. Further still, down conversion allows 4K playback to output as 1080 HD if required.

For customers interfacing to 4K devices, the brand’s new Mini Converter SDI to HDMI 4K supports HDMI 4K devices such as new video projectors and televisions more recently introduced into the market. However if customers need to connect to older Quad Link HD-SDI devices that use four regular HD-SDI connections for 4K, the manufacturer’s Mini Converter SDI Multiplex has been optimised to convert the dual link 3 Gb/s SDI to Quad Link HD-SDI 4K.

With SDI, HDMI and analogue video capture and playback, combined with balanced analogue and AES/EBU digital audio, DeckLink 4K Extreme allows users connect to all decks, cameras and monitors, instantly switching between SD, HD, 2K and 4K, making it particularly suited to broadcast and post production applications.
