RME has commenced shipping the ADI-8 DS Mk III AD/DA converter, describing it as boasting a ‘truly unique feature set’ at a ‘fraction of the budget you usually would have to spend’.
Representing the latest addition to the manufacturer’s ADI-8 series, the 19-inch, 1RU, 8-channel ADI-8 DS Mk III not only offers AD and DA conversion but also digital format conversion and distribution features for full digital connectivity.
Included is Intelligent Clock Control (ICC), SyncCheck, SteadyClock, AES/EBU and ADAT I/Os, four hardware reference levels up to +24 dBu and 192kHz sample rate, word clock I/O and double 8-channel level metering. According to the manufacturer it also incorporates low latency conversion with less than 12 samples delay.
Connectivity to digital studio equipment is via ADAT or AES/EBU, with both cards offering eight analogue I/Os. Additionally, a digital patchbay has been incorporated with free choice of source and destination setup. Says RME: ‘ADAT can be converted to AES, AES to ADAT, cross-converted at the same time, ADAT passed on to ADAT while monitored analogue, and many more’. Finally, the ADAT outputs boast a copy mode for the connection of two different ADAT devices.
Also shipping is the HDSPe OPTO-X, an extension board for the company’s HDSPe MADI FX triple MADI card. Described as ‘marking a new milestone in the history of audio interface cards’, the extension boasts an impressive 390 audio channels, three MADI I/Os (two optical and one coaxial), low latency performance, a redundancy mode and internal effects.
Like the standard extension board it comes with Word Clock I/O and a D-sub connector for MIDI and AES I/O. The standard coaxial MADI I/O is replaced by an optical MADI I/O.
