The Audio Distribution Network (ADN) discussion system has been launched by Sennheiser as a premium entry-level wired, digital discussion system for the conference market.
The system comprises a central unit and two conference terminal options, one of which is for the conference manager and the other for the participants. The ADN conference unit includes a Sennheiser KE 10 capsule boasting a super-cardioid pickup pattern, while a DSP limiter is included to guard against audio signal over-amplification. Audio is reproduced by the terminal’s integrated twin loudspeakers.
Sennheiser has attempted to ensure that the design of the conference units is capable of blending harmoniously with all environments, creating an ‘understated visual appeal’ which the manufacturer states is emphasised with the use of concealed cable connections. RJ-45 ports are used to facilitate a quick set-up, while a cable strain relief is available for fixed installations.
The central unit (CU1) also includes an integrated PC with pre-installed conference software, intended to provide a graphic overview of the conference room while enabling control of the microphone distribution and conference settings from a laptop. At the balanced XLR audio output, the signal can be distributed via a mixing desk to an additional PA system, transmitted via a radio system or connected to a system for the hearing impaired. External audio sources such as a wireless microphone receiver can also be input professionally via the XLR audio input.
According to Sennheiser, the system boasts low fan noise, while data transmission takes place via an EtherCAT bus, with the central unit supplying between 30 and 40 conference units. The central unit also includes an Ethernet connection.
