AKG celebrates 65th year with limited edition mics and headphones

AKG has released a range of limited edition products in order to mark its 65th anniversary, including Titan semi-gloss finish versions of its C451 condenser microphones and K702 headphones.

Beginning with the C451 anniversary edition mic, this has been deliberately designed to embody the sound found in the brand’s C451 EB, and offers a CK1 capsule for precision accuracy. Since its introduction in 1969, the C451 has seen a number of improvements including its transformerless preamp which facilitates a high sound pressure capability. In fact, the limited edition allows for close miking of sound sources up to a reported 155dB SPL with no distortion.

Elsewhere, the K702 anniversary edition headphones boast a newly-designed leather headband and soft velour ear pads to offer comfort during long recording or listening sessions.

Meanwhile the manufacturer has unveiled a ‘revamped’ version of its first dynamic microphone, the D12. The newly-designed D12 VR large-diaphragm cardioid microphone is intended specifically for kick drum recording and live applications, and offers a thin diaphragm within its newly designed capsule to enhance low-frequency performance.

Manufactured with the original C414 transformer from the 1970s, the vintage-style microphone offers three active sound shapes for recording, comprising open kick drum, closed kick drum and vintage sound.

The Harman Professional brand has also released the Helical antenna, which is targeted towards sound professionals, sports broadcast engineers and engineers that operate at long range FOH positions.

Connecting with wireless microphone or in-ear monitoring systems, the lightweight and polarised directional antenna operates in the UHF range, carrying a frequency between 470 and 740MHz and a 9dB gain. Helical employs a durable, water-resistant nylon cover and is designed for rapid deployment so that users can unfold, extend and mount the unit on a stand quickly, connecting the cable with a N or BNC connector to receivers, transmitters or antenna combiner.
