AKG takes to the skies

AKG is making strides into new markets with its new AV100 aviation headset. Designed in collaboration with pilot, Hannes Arch, a member of the Red Bull Air Race Team, the headset makes use of proprietary noise-reduction technology to block out cockpit noise, and offers features specially designed for aviation use.

The noise-cancelling technology employed in the AV100 is described as ‘hybrid and active’ and is coupled to a signal processor calibrated to attenuate specific frequencies common inside an airplane. The headset has a built-in microphone, which can be mounted on either side, and offers several aviation-specific features.

The cable-mounted control unit provides Bluetooth connectivity and an Aux input enabling interfacing with navigation devices, tablets, phones or other devices. The headset has a 6-pin Lemo connector, an adjustable automatic input switch, and a standard dual-plug adapter that is included.

Heading back down to earth, a new range of wireless tabletop microphones for courtrooms, conference rooms, and houses of worship have been debuted by the Harman owned manufacturer. The CBL 31 WLS and STSDAM+ are based on heavy-duty tabletop mechanics and because of that weight, are stated to be ‘highly shock-absorbent and hold the microphone firmly in place’.

Various AKG pocket transmitters (including the WMS40/45/420/470 and DMS700) fit into the housing of both units, freeing the stations from source connections. Both models contain a mute switch that controls the microphone, plus an LED bar to show the operational status. A 3.5mm input jack allows connection of either up to four AKG CBL410s or a laptop to transmit the audio to a local PA.

The CBL31 WLS includes the CK31 cardioid capsule from the manufacturer’s Dam Series, whilst the STSDAM+ is designed to fit Dam+ Series microphones, including the GN15/30/50M and CH41/43/49.

As well as these new announcements, AKG has recently showcased two complete wireless microphone systems, one of which features 128-Bit AES encryption.

AKG’s WMS420 is a single-channel wireless system designed for smaller venues, and comes in four different configurations. A vocal set which features a D5 handheld microphone, a headworn set with a C555l, a lavalier set with C417, and an instrument set with a MKG L cable.

The system includes the SR420 UHF stationary receiver with two external, detachable antennas on the rear and standard 50-ohm BNC connectors. The system also includes HT420 handheld transmitters’ and PT420 pocket transmitters, both of which are compatible (like the WMS470) with the CU400 charging station.

Completing the manufacturer’s series of launches is the DMSTetrad secure digital wireless system, which boasts ‘superior RF performance, uncompressed audio transmission, and 128-bit AES standard encryption’.

The system features a quad channel mixer, an antenna front mount kit, and transmits audio uncompressed at 24bit, 48kHz. The addition of digital encryption makes the system ideal for use in sensitive environments.

Two packages are available; a vocal set including the DHTTetrad P5, and the performer set that includes a C111 L earhook microphone and MKG L instrument cable.
