Allen & Heath introduces Qu-24 and Xone:23 mixers

Allen & Heath has introduced the 30 in/24 out Qu-24 compact digital mixer to its Qu series of mixers, as well as the Xone:23, a two-channel DJ mixer featuring  an enhanced version of Allen & Heath’s Xone filter.

The Qu-24 features total recall of settings (including 25 motorised faders and digitally controlled preamps), a high resolution touchscreen, Qu-Drive integrated multi-track recorder, dSNAKE for remote I/O and personal monitoring, multi-channel USB streaming to Mac, Qu-Pad control app, and iLive’s FX library.

The mixer has a dedicated fader per mic input channel, 24 mic/line inputs, three stereo inputs, four FX engines with four dedicated sends and stereo returns, 20 mix outputs including two stereo matrix mix outputs and two stereo groups with full processing, patchable AES digital output with a further two channel ALT output, dedicated talkback mic input, and two track output. The mixer includes processing capability through five ARM core processors run in parallel. High speed dual core DSPs provide channel and FX processing, with room for future expansion.

Equipped with an 800x480 full colour touchscreen, the Qu-24 features ‘Touch Channel’ access to channel processing, FX racks and all the setup and system management controls, whilst the ‘SuperStrip’ provides control knobs for a selected channel’s key processing parameters – such as gain, HPF, parametric EQ, gate threshold, compressor threshold and pan.

Also on board is Qu-Drive, the mixer’s integrated 18-channel USB recorder, which works with an external USB drive to record and playback multi-track and stereo audio .WAV files. The USB interface can also be used to store scene and library data for archiving. If using with Mac DAW systems, there is also a USB audio 32x30 streaming interface for recording and playback. The Qu-24 is equipped with many of the iLive pro touring series’ FX emulations, including classic reverbs, gated reverbs, delays and modulators.

Making use of A&H’s proprietary dSNAKE low latency audio connection, the mixer can connect over a single Cat-5 digital snake to a remote audio rack, such as the AR84 or AR2412, and is compatible with the ME personal mixing system.
Allen & Health has released a free Qu-Pad app giving wireless control of the mixer’s key parameters and settings, enabling the user to tweak the PA, adjust the monitors on stage, and mix the show from the audience. The app connects to the mixer via a Wi-Fi router plugged into the Ethernet control port.
As well as the new Qu-24, Allen & Heath has launched the Xone:23, a two-channel DJ mixer including an enhanced version of Allen & Heath’s Xone filter. Also featured are resonance control, VCA faders, three band total kill EQ, illuminated switches and cross-fader curve selector.

At the heart of the mixer is Allen & Heath’s analogue Voltage Control Filter (VCF) system, which offers low and high-pass filters, frequency sweep and ‘mild to wild’ resonance control. The unit also has an FX loop, which routes back in through the filter system.

The two stereo channels have independent level controls for each input, allowing up to four stereo sources to be simultaneously routed to the mix, as well as to the send and returns. All three VCA faders can be upgraded with the latest Innofader – an aftermarket non-contact digital fader.

Like many DJ mixers, the Xone:23’s main mix output and mic input connections are balanced XLR, and there is a dedicated record output. Also included are a booth output with its own volume control, a cue mix control, a headphone output, and signal levels displayed on nine segment peak hold meters.
Styled on the Xone:DB4, the Xone:23 includes soft touch, backlit controls, light-piped meters and a distinctive new shaped steel faceplate.
