An entry-level media management option

Vitec is targeting the less experienced end-user, such as an A/V engineer at a house of worship, with the PX Media Library (PX ML). The media management solution has been created to save users time with a solution that tags, edits, manages, organises and shares media files across an open-system infrastructure. Initially available in two versions, PX ML Pro is designed for organisations that are new to media management with ‘a few limitations for smaller workgroups’ or those with single-server solutions installed, while PX ML Enterprise is a fully scalable solution for dedicated multi-server or high-availability systems operating within modern virtual environments.

A format-agnostic platform built to support almost all media file formats, PX ML features a search engine with options for fuzzy search, full-text retrieval automatic completion of search requests, thesaurus support, picture similarity and phonetic search. Meanwhile, the platform’s Smart Media Player provides myriad functionality, including tagging, media content preview, basic editing features and editing of related metadata as well as access to import and export capabilities.

The manufacturer states that the platform ‘offers affordable script-based workflow management for automated content processing and a customised user interface template’, catering for organisations that wish to stream a special event. Linux server OS and built-in rights management with active directory support fulfil the security needs of PX ML, while additional security is also provided via periodic security patches.
