ASP8024 goes retro with Heritage Edition

Audient’s ASP8024 console gets a brand new look, as well as gaining enhancements and new features beneath the surface, such as its Retro Iron variable mix bus output card, with the release of the ASP8024: Heritage Edition. The manufacturer, about to celebrate its 20th anniversary, describes the new console as ‘the definitive version of David Dearden’s classic design’.
Debuting within the ASP8024, Retro Iron reportedly utilises Carnhill output transformers and an all-discrete output amplifier, providing subtle low bump and high lift mix EQs that are able to be switched individually. Meanwhile, the main mix bus has been upgraded to include John Hardy Company’s 990C discrete amps.
The existing VCA mix bus compressor has been updated, now featuring a tool that Audient has dubbed Bass Expand, a high pass filter in the sidechain, and a gain reduction meter. Other improvements include a monitoring grade headphone amplifier, an ALPS Blue Velvet main monitor pot, an enhanced FaderLink plug-in and what the manufacturer describes as ‘a superior whisper-quiet power supply’.
The British manufacturer states that the ASP8025-HE takes inspiration from the past with its retro look that includes vintage knobs, chunky fader caps and a walnut armrest. The design is based on two custom consoles from Mr Dearden’s first role at Advision Studios in the 1970s.
