Audio-Technica promises more presenter freedom with mtu301
Published: PRODUCTS

Joining the SpectraPulse mtu101 microphone transmitter unit (boundary) and mtu201 XLR desk stand transmitter (gooseneck), Audio-Technica has launched the mtu301 body-pack transmitter to offer more flexible options for presenters and performers.
SpectraPulse offers secure wireless operation for the installed sound market, free from RF competition, frequency coordination and ‘white space’ issues. Like the other SpectraPulse components, the mtu301 is immune to 700MHz and spectrum-crowding issues, but has been designed to work with Audio-Technica lavalier and head-worn microphones pre-terminated with a compatible input connector.
The unit provides bias voltage for electret condenser microphones and operates on standard Alkaline or NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) rechargeable AA batteries. The body-pack also includes an on/off switch, a mute switch and LEDs indicating power/mute and link status, in addition to a low-battery warning. A charger allows NiMH batteries to recharge within the unit, which offers approximately nine hours of battery life.
Elsewhere, the BPHS1-XF4 communications headset has been designed for use with intercom systems to provide intelligible stereo reproduction. It features closed-back circum-aural (around-the-ear) ear cups for ambient noise rejection with minimal ear fatigue, plus a boom-mounted moving-coil dynamic unidirectional microphone that can be positioned for use on either side of the mouth. Other features include a neodymium 40mm driver magnet in the microphone intended to deliver high output levels and detailed sound reproduction.
The BPHS1-XF4 comes with BPCB4 cable and three AT8162 windscreens. It can also be adapted for broadcast applications by switching the BPCB1 cable with 3-pin XLR-type/stereo ¼-inch terminations.
