Aural Exciter plug-in leads Waves launches

Waves Audio and hardware manufacturer Aphex have jointly announced the launch of a plug-in version of the Aural Exciter.

Officially named the Waves Aphex Vintage Aural Exciter, the new plug-in retains the same features as the original ‘groundbreaking’ hardware unit, with the developer claiming that it offers increased and enhanced presence, brightness, and detail on vocal tracks and masters.

The developer has also announced the availability of Waves V8, describing it as an improved preset management system with in-host integration, multi-level Undo, and easier navigation.

V8 claims faster loading times, mouse-wheel control, improved metering in AudioSuite, Novation Automap SDK implementation, and enhanced support for Avid Icon console EQ and dynamics sections, which can be purchased individually. Among V8’s updated features are the L1 Ultramaximiser, S1 Stereo Imager, DeEsser, TrueVerb, Q10 Equalizer, C1 Compressor/Expander and AudioTrack.

Continuing the launches, the company has presented the C6 Multiband Compressor to the market. Described as ‘a must-have for front of house and monitor engineers’, the C6 features two additional floating bands (compared to the C4), plus a side-chain feature for instrument shaping, giving users sufficient multiband compression and dynamic equalisation when creating a desired sound.

The compressor’s features include internal/external sidechain per band, individual band listen mode, four crossover bands plus two floating bands, dynamic EQ, compression and expansion. Double precision bit resolution processing is also included, as well as ARC Auto Release Control. The C6 supports TDM, RTAS, Audio Suite, VST, AU, and is PC and Mac compatible. The software is available either separately or as part of the Waves Mercury bundle. Mercury V7 owners covered by Waves Update Plan will receive the C6 at no additional charge.
