Avid goes compact with the S3L

Avid has responded to widespread anticipation amongst users with the launch of S3L, a compact mixing system that integrates its Venue software with Pro Tools and more. The system has been introduced with the promise of ‘the sound quality, performance, and features of Avid live systems in an all-new modular, networked design’.

Described by Avid as ‘open and flexible’, S3L comprises an HDX powered mix engine running Venue software and AAX DSP plug-ins, scalable remote I/O, a compact Eucon-enabled control surface, and Pro Tools to deliver integrated live sound mixing and recording. In addition, the ‘streamlined networked design’ is intended to simplify set-up and configuration with drag-and-drop functionality.

Other key features include modularity – S3L can be configured with up to four Stage 16 remote boxes (providing up to 64 mic inputs), and full compatibility with the Venue show file format. The final system will be available in a variety of configurations for different I/O needs, from 16 to 64 inputs.

Meanwhile, the manufacturer has introduced the Fast Track Solo and Fast Track Duo portable audio interfaces. Both 24-bit, 48kHz interfaces include Pro Tools Express software for Mac and PC, and connect directly to an iPad, providing I/O for supported iOS apps.

Targeted at musicians, students and aspiring professionals, key features include the incorporation of Pro Tools Express, up to 16 channels of recording, full Midi editing and notation, virtual instruments and utilities such as time, tempo and pitch adjustment. Sessions are also compatible with Pro Tools and Pro Tools HD systems.

Physically, Fast Track Solo includes one mic preamp and one instrument input, whilst Fast Track Duo includes two mic preamps/instrument inputs and two line inputs. Both allow direct monitoring while recording without latency.
