Avid introduces HD Series interfaces

Avid has introduced a series of hardware and software solutions designed to enhance the quality and performance of Pro Tools|HD.

The new HD Series interfaces—HD I/O, HD Omni and HD Madi—offer configurations to support a variety of analogue and open digital formats for audio recording, mixing and playback.  Additionally, new HEAT (Harmonically Enhanced Algorithm Technology) software allows users to add vintage analogue sound to the Pro Tools mixer via a single global control.

HD I/O has the option of three configurations—16x16 analogue, 16x16 digital and 8x8x8 analogue and digital—in a 2 RU rack mountable interface. HD Omni includes conversion, two mic pre-amps, headphone outputs, a surround monitor section and a 14x26 channel persistent mixer that functions even when the computer is off. HD Madi offers the ability to connect Pro Tools|HD systems to industry-standard Madi infrastructures without the need for a format converter. Built-in sample rate conversion on all inputs and outputs allow customers to integrate into workflows with multiple sample rates (upstream and downstream) using a single, 64-channel 1 RU rack mountable interface.

The manufacturer has also introduced Pro Tools | HD Native. This newest member of the Pro Tools range couples the software features, p sound quality and compatibility of Pro Tools | HD systems, with a native audio driver. Pro Tools | HD Native uses HD Series interfaces for up to 64 channels of audio conversion and I/O. Support for Sync HD enables synchronisation to picture for post-production workflows. The system integrates with Avid Icon and C|24 work surfaces, and features lossless session and project interchange with other Pro Tools and Avid video editing systems. Additional features include third-party DAW support, integrated low latency mixer and Pro Tools HD Series interface support.

A further release is the Pro Tools Mbox family. The new Mbox interfaces feature integration with the included Pro Tools LE software; new drivers for Logic, Live, Record, Reason, Fruity Loops, Cubase, Nuendo, Sonar, and other audio software; FireWire connection; Up to 24-bit, 192 kHz sample rates; and onboard DSP.
