Designed to meet the evolving needs of the audio industry, Avid has announced the release of the all-new Pro Tools|HDX digital audio workstation and Pro Tools 10 software.
According to the manufacturer, the new releases both deliver ‘better performance, faster workflows, and easier collaboration than ever before’.
The Pro Tools|HDX has been designed to enable customers to mix bigger, more complex productions. Contributing to this is the fact that it boasts up to five times more DSP per card, provides over a thousand dB of additional headroom, and includes up to four times the track counts and two times the I/O when compared to its Pro Tools|HD Accel predecessor.
Key features highlighted by Avid include the ability to be able to manage larger productions with fewer cards, with up to four times the playable track counts, and the fact that a user can work with up to 64 channels of I/O per card.
A user can choose from a range of Pro Tools HD series interfaces, as well as between two system choices. These are the Pro Tools|HDX Native system and the new flagship DSP-accelerated Pro Tools|HDX. The Native choice is for users who require advanced workflows and sound quality, and want to leverage their host computer to get the best performance and lowest latency. The DSP-accelerated system, meanwhile, is for users who require consistent peak performance and near-zero latency to handle extremely large and complex productions.
The new Pro Tools 10 software, meanwhile, includes several new tools and workflows designed to save time, such as Clip Gain, which separates pre-mix levels from Pro Tools software’s mixing automation, reportedly greatly speeding up and improving the workflow between sound editors and mixers.
Promising customers that they will be able to achieve a ‘higher sound quality and better performance than ever before,’ the new software includes disk handling improvements and real-time fades, and the inclusion of a 24-hour timeline capability. Pro Tools 10 also facilitates the use of multiple file formats and mixed bit depths in the same project, without the need to convert files, and allows users to record, edit and mix in a higher resolution than before, with 32-bit floating-point file format support. An additional feature is the inclusion of Avid’s Channel Strip plug-in.
In addition, Pro Tools customers can also upgrade their membership to include hardware coverage for an Mbox, Eleven Rack, or 003 audio interface or a Pro Tools|HD system.
Also new from Avid is the Avid Vantage Program, which is an annual membership program for Pro Tools customers. Avid Vantage subscribers will receive unlimited online technical support and expert phone support when they need it. A user can also gain access to a collection of audio plug-ins, and for a limited time they’ll receive an Avid Store voucher that can be applied to new software purchases or upgrades.
