Avid unveils Pro Tools 9 and Venue 29

Avid believes Pro Tools 9 will assist customers ranging from aspiring enthusiast to professionals to create complicated mixes whether they’re at home, travelling, or are working in a large facility. Customers can now design their workflow of choice using the new Pro Tools software-only configuration.

Features formerly available as extras are now included with Pro Tools 9 including; automatic delay compensation, more audio tracks and busses, and an advanced production toolset.

A series of audio for picture enhancements provides the ability to easily collaborate with other audio and video software users. These include an OMF/AAF/MXF interchange and MP3 export, a built-in time code ruler, an updated 7.1 surround panner, and new variable stereo pan depths.

Avid has also introduced Venue 2.9, featuring enhanced communication between the digital audio workstation (DAW) – Pro Tools – and Venue live sound systems through the new Venue Link feature.

Venue 2.9 software eliminates many of the manual steps involved in making live recordings, and can create recordings for Virtual Soundcheck or remixing. For routing and system backup flexibility, engineers can use the new Redundant Output Mode, which works in conjunction with Venue option cards to deliver audio output to two Pro Tools systems simultaneously, or even to mixed formats such as Pro Tools and Madi-equipped systems.  

Features of Venue 2.9 software include; reduced set-up time, the Pro Tools session always matches changes to the live show, identification of key points in live performances for subsequent remixing or use in Virtual Soundcheck, a backup system is created with more routing flexibility with the Redundant Output Mode, I/O flexibility at the mix position with the Venue IOx Option Card. Users can also record to a local Pro Tools system while also sending audio through Madi to another digital console or audio workstation.

Featuring four decks, effects and a built-in sampler, the Torq 2.0 features the new Traq Morph feature, designed to assist new ways of transitioning between tracks. DJs can integrate Torq 2.0 with turntables, CD decks, and a variety of popular DJ controllers, or can run the software on its own.

With the Eleven Rack Expansion Pack, DJs have a wider choice of effects with the option of turning the Eleven Rack into a bass rig and vocal studio. Inspired by the Ampeg SVT, bass tones can be captured using the new bass amp and cabinet models, as well as record studio-quality vocals and other instruments with the parametric EQ and studio compressor channel strip effects. Advanced recording options give DJs the ability to capture their entire performance with an integrated performance recorder for distribution or editing. As a result of ReWire, they can also create, mix and record with Pro Tools or third-party DAWs.
