Belden’s tough new mic cables

Belden has extended its broadcast portfolio with the launch of two Brilliance microphone cables. Brilliance 1776 is the manufacturer’s strongest microphone cable to date, while the compact digital microphone cable Brilliance 2221 is described by the company as ‘the finest performing digital cable available’.

Brilliance 1776 is an analogue microphone cable reportedly capable of withstanding the rough handling and constant use of studio and live environments. It is the strongest microphone cable ever manufactured by Belden, featuring a minimum pull strength of 113kg. The cable is engineered with high strength custom alloy conductors and a tough EPDM rubber jacket.

Meanwhile, the Brilliance 2221 compact digital microphone cable is intended for applications where full-size microphone cables are too large. It is small enough for hand-held solid-state recording devices (SSD) with miniature microphone connectors, such as those from Lemo, Neutrik or Switchcraft, or those using Bantam or TT jacks as the balanced line input.

With an impedance of 110-ohms, the cable is able to carry digital audio and features a capacitance of 42.7pF/m. Brilliance 2221 is suitable for use as an analogue or digital patch cable where Bantam or TT patch connectors are used. It can also be used as a DMX lighting control cable when small size and flexibility are required.
