German microphone manufacturer, beyerdynamic, has completed the line-up for its Touring Gear drum mic series with the TG D71c. The unit is a condenser boundary microphone with a half-cardioid pickup characteristic that reportedly delivers a ‘high impulse fidelity, quick-responding attack and maximum SPL of 148dB’.
The hand-made microphone is constructed with a rugged housing that allows the unit to be deployed in a bass drum without any mounting accessories. It also houses an integrated pre-amp in its XLR connector, with a red, illuminating LED displaying the applied phantom power as well as the operating status of the microphone. The mic has a non-slip rubber bottom but for longer installation on a surface, it also has a mounting device on the bottom.
