Biamp puts the V in AVB

With the development of TesiraLUX, Biamp has added low-latency, 4K networked video distribution to the Tesira platform for transporting both audio and video signals over a single network via AVB/TSN. The TesiraLUX product line includes an AVB video encoder, the IDH-1, and an AVB video decoder, the OH-1. Whilst the encoder features one HDMI port, one DisplayPort port and two mic/line-level analogue inputs, the decoder includes one HDMI port and two line-level analogue outputs.

The new platform is stated to support the latest video formats, including 4096x2160 (4K) at 60Hz and high dynamic range (HDR), in addition to the Rec. 2020 colour space. Video sources with up to 16-bit colour depth with 4:4:4 chroma subsampling can be accepted, whilst supporting eight channels of embedded PCM audio that can be broken out for routing and processing independently. The system also manages EDID automatically between the device and the input source/output display by virtue of internal scalers in both the encoder and decoder. Having adopted AVB/TSN, TesiraLUX guarantees a total system latency of less than two frames (33ms at 60Hz), including scaling, compression and network transit. The AVB/TSN bandwidth reservation capabilities coupled with Tesira’s bandwidth management tools also set up customers to create truly converged networks rather than dedicated A/V media distribution network infrastructure.

Furthermore, Tesira coordinates signal distribution thereby bypassing the requirement to manually add audio delays for lip sync, which is provided automatically. According to the manufacturer, TesiraLUX transmits ‘visually lossless and perfectly aligned images that make best use of the available bandwidth’. Multiple software-based options are available for managing bandwidth, including setting maximum resolution, frame rate and rate of compression. Transmission options are available courtesy of the 1Gb (RJ-45) and 10Gb (SFP+) media ports. Within the single software application, audio and video installations can be created to match exact specifications. In addition, TesiraLUX’s video partitions behave like Tesira’s audio partitions, providing a modular and intuitive approach to system design and commissioning.
