Blackmagic Design updates HyperDeck software

Blackmagic Design has released HyperDeck software update 2.0, which has been designed to add broadcast quality compressed 10-bit recording and playback to the Avid DNxHD format.

According to the manufacturer, adding native support for DNxHD will allow for longer recording times, lower media storage costs and full file format compatibility with Avid Media Composer systems. All media is recorded in MXF format, which allows files to be loaded without any import processing.

With this update, customers will now be able to choose between uncompressed or DNxHD formats, and then all recordings and playback will use that format.

The manufacturer claims that the HyperDeck Studio can record for long periods of time due to the inclusion of dual SSD slots. This allows a new blank disk to be inserted while recording, and when the current recording disk is full, the studio will continue to record across onto the new blank disk.
