Blackmagic provides live standards conversion for A/V professionals

The Teranex AV from Blackmagic Design is a broadcast quality standards converter that the Australian manufacturer has developed with A/V professionals in mind. It includes 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0a inputs, outputs and loop through as well as low latency that can reportedly go as low as 67ms to allow HDMI or SDI video formats to be instantly converted to a different format and outputted for live projection. In addition to this, a still store for capturing and storing a video frame such as a corporate logo, freeze frame for temporarily holding the current frame, and Hi-Fi audio inputs are included to assist users working on live events, presentations and conferences.

For audio, four channels of AES/EBU or two channels of balanced analogue audio are catered for with XLR connections that feature on the Teranex AV in addition to the Hi-Fi connections, which are used for connecting devices with consumer audio connections, such as lapel microphones and laptop computers. This design is to enable almost any audio source to be connected, so that the sound signal can be embedded with video and then output in any chosen format.

The device is also compatible with earlier UHD monitors and projectors that can only support quad link SDI 1080 HD inputs due to its quad link 3G-SDI outputs, which is included as well as the HDMI and 12G-SDI connections. Blackmagic states that the Teranex AV can serve as a video wall processor as it ‘can split Ultra HD into four HD screens, or it can scale regular HD up, split it and output it onto four large screens for a tiled video wall’. BNC input and output connections and built-in Ethernet connection for remote control are included and an optical fibre cage is available as an optional extra to enable SMPTE fibre optic modules.
