Blackmagic Studio Camera packs 10-inch viewfinder

Billed as the world’s smallest live broadcast camera, yet boasting a large 10-inch viewfinder, the Studio Camera from Blackmagic Design is being introduced as ‘one of the most advanced broadcast cameras for live production’.

Compatible with all Micro Four Thirds lenses and constructed from lightweight magnesium alloy, the Studio Camera has reportedly been designed specifically for live production with features to suit. It is available in 1080 HD and Ultra HD versions and, alongside its viewfinder, offers a four hour battery life, talkback, tally indicators, phantom powered mic connections and optical fibre and SDI connections.

The camera supports the tally SDI standard used in the manufacturer’s Atem range of live production switchers, and tally lights illuminate automatically, allowing the cast and crew to see which cameras are on air. Operation is via the side control panel, which allows access to focus, iris and on-screen menu settings. On screen menus are overlaid on the viewfinder and appear and disappear as needed.

Meanwhile, Blackmagic has also released the next generation Atem 2M/E Production Studio, featuring two built-in multi-view monitoring outputs enabling users to view all sources on an SDI or HD monitor or TV. It has also showcased Smart Videohub, a family of multi-format routers implementing 6G-SDI technology to allow SD, HD, and UHD to all be routed at the same time.
 
The Atem 2 M/E includes the same transitions found on the manufacturer’s regular HD switchers, but now in native Ultra HD. Operators have the choice of mix, dip and wipe effects with control of transition type, pattern, length and other attributes. Two built-in media players and an included Photoshop plug-in allow for direct integration of graphics, logos and titles. A built-in audio mixer is also included, allowing any switcher to use embedded HDMI and SDI audio from cameras as well as external audio from the XLR and HiFi inputs. The mixer can be used in direct input mixing or in audio-follow-video mode, where the audio from each camera will automatically be cross-faded while switching.

The Smart Videohub family comprises two 1U variants, a 12 x 12 model and a larger 20 x 20 version, replacing the previous Micro Videohub and Smart Videohub routers. The new models support HD via 6G-SDI, include a built-in power supply and front-panel control.
