Blue Microphones brings studio recording to iPad mobile platform

Blue Microphones’ Spark Digital is a studio-grade condenser microphone that offers USB and iPad connectivity, which the manufacturer claims is the first mic to do so.  The microphone boasts the same condenser capsule as its analogue predecessor, Spark, plus the same hand-tuned components and focus control option, which provides two different sonic options in one mic.

Where it differs is with its proprietary angle-adjustable desk stand with built-in shockmount that allows users to quickly position Spark Digital without any additional hardware. For each platform connection (USB and iPad), the new offering includes a y-cable with an attached, extended female headphone jack for direct monitoring. 

An additional key feature is an exclusive Cloud Production bundle with free access to production tools, plus the offer of a 25GB storage and transfer account for six months from audio backup and transfer company Gobbler and a six-month pro account from SoundCloud.

In another portable recording announcement, Blue Microphones has released Mikey Digital: a ‘plug-and-play’ external microphone for the iPad platform. Designed for recording stereo audio on the latest iPod touch, iPhone and iPad models using iOS audio apps or via a built in video function, the mic boasts automatic and manual gain control and a multi-source auxiliary input for direct recording of various sound sources.

Mikey Digital features two custom-tuned condenser capsules, and users can switch between automatic and manual gain settings. An LED clipping indicator that signals whenever volume levels are producing distortion, whilst the inclusion of a 230-degree rotating head and a multi-source 3.5mm auxiliary input jack provide further options for mobile use.

The external microphone also features a USB pass-through connection for charging the device to allow for continuous recording without draining the battery life.
