Broadcast Pix update debuts Virtual Studios

Broadcast Pix is debuting a virtual set platform in the version 5.0 software for the Granite and Mica integrated production switchers. Named Virtual Studios, the feature is at the heart of an update that also delivers expanded support for third-party IP-based cameras and streaming appliances, as well as including the ability to correct content issues with Source Controls in real-time.
Virtual Studios is described by the manufacturer as ‘combining ClearKey chromakey technology with virtual backgrounds for up to eight cameras’. The system is designed to preserve shadows and other natural lighting in the set to help create a realistic result, while also allowing multi-box DVE compositions to be scaled to full screen or squeezed back as required. Additionally, users can save up to four moves per camera without optical tracking systems, allowing operators to zoom, pan, and tilt into the virtual set. Also onboard is an AutoFlags feature, facilitating the use of any still background to fill in the black pillarboxes on the sides of a 4:3 image in a 16:9 production.
Also in the version 5.0 software is Source Controls, which is designed for simple real-time repositioning of logos and video squeezing to compensate for incorrect aspect ratios. Based on the manufacturer’s patented technology for low constant delay, the system allows live cameras, as well as internal clips and graphics, to be resized and moved via DVE before being applied to a keyer. Adjustments are not globally assigned, allowing custom settings on individual pieces of content, while adjustments can also be saved as a macro for later recall.
Finally, support for control of IP-based cameras has been expanded to encompass models such as Sony’s BRC-Z330, BRC-900, and SRG-300, Marshall Electronics models, and Vaddio camera systems. IP control of Matrox Monarch HD and Monarch HDX streaming and recording appliances is also now supported.
