Cadac unveils DM1600 compact digital console

Announced at the recent Pro Light + Sound exhibition in Frankfurt, the console represents Cadac’s first steps into the lucrative mid-level digital console market. Designed primarily as a live desk, an optional Firewire interface adds recording capabilities to the DM1600, while 16-channel 19-inch rack-mount expander modules provide up to a 48-channel mix system. Console features include 16 motorised faders, hi-resolution TFT colour display and scene recall of all functions.

According to Cadac, the console also boasts specially developed low distortion EQ filters and ‘analogue sounding compressors’, 24-bit/96kHz Delta-Sigma AD/DA converters, and four fourth generation 32/40-bit floating-point SHARC processors. The desk’s mic preamps also feature input ICs with CMRR and are reportedly capable of the theoretical maximum Equivalent Input Noise.

Elsewhere, the Central Assignment Module (CAM) controls all input signals, groups, VCA groups, effects and auxiliary sends, while the manufacturer is stressing that operating the console will not require doubling-up on function keys or menu-scrolling. Rotary encoders can be interrogated by pushing the control with the value, mode or function immediately displayed on the desk’s TFT screen, upon which complex bus routing, auxiliary pre/post assignment, and detailed dynamics settings are also shown.

Also newly introduced is the Live1 compact analogue console series, which is comprised of 16-, 24- and 32-channel frames. Features include 4-band EQ, with two swept mid sections, input channels boasting individual phantom power, PFL and mute, 100mm faders with signal-present and overload indicators, six auxiliaries (switchable pre/post in pairs), 60mm aux master faders and four subgroups. All frame sizes feature four stereo inputs and six returns as well as two returns on 100mm faders. The master output section includes dual outputs and talkback.
