d&b omni sub offers ‘new take on old friend’

The double 18-inch B22-SUB has become the largest omnidirectional subwoofer in the d&b audiotechnik range, having been launched as an update to B2-SUB, an icon in the market for more than two decades. According to the manufacturer, the sub is meant as a ‘new take on an old friend’.
Intended for ground-stacked applications, the B22-SUB reportedly improves on its predecessor with improved internal bracing and ‘a modern appearance’. The enclosure houses two 18-inch neodymium drivers in a bandpass horn design, while using the subs in multiples of three in cardioid subwoofer array (CSA) mode will reportedly deliver strong rejection to the rear. The sub can also be used in Infra mode to extend its frequency response down to 32Hz with an upper range of 68Hz – in standard mode the frequency response is 37Hz to 90Hz.
Also new from d&b is the DS10 audio network bridge, which is intended for use with the manufacturer’s amps. It provides 16 AES3 output channels via Dante, plus four AES3 input channels and an integrated five port network switch.
The DS10 enables users to send multiple channels from the console to the amplifiers using a single network cable. At the amplifiers, the DS10 then distributes the audio signals to the AES3 inputs within the d&b amps, as well as sending meta-data such as Dante channel labels and cabling information via the AES3 channel stream. Also offered is a bypass mode, which facilitates the use of the unit as an AES3 splitter.
Other features include support for mains voltages of 100 to 240V, 50 to 60Hz, and overvoltage protection of up to 400V. The integrated five port switch offers options for a primary and redundant network plus further connectivity for external devices. Finally, the DS10 can transport both audio and remote control data via the same network cable.
