Dante adds WDM support to Virtual Soundcard

Dante has released V3.2.0 of its Virtual Soundcard, adding WDM support. The upgrade means that the software will now support applications including iTunes, Windows Media Player, Skype and more. PC users can play out or record audio from these applications with professional sound quality.

Additional features include a choice of 64 x 64 ASIO or 8 x 8 WDM mode, either 44.1kHz or 48kHz sample rate in WDM mode, Windows 8 32- and 64-bit support, clock performance improvements and the integration of online help. The update also does away with the need to install Apple Bonjour.

Meanwhile, Audinate has introduced Ultimo - a complete, fully featured, ready-to-use Dante interface for networked audio products. Integrated into a single 13 x 13mm chip and designed to act as an integrated, cost-effective networked audio solution over a 100Mbps Ethernet interface, Ultimo extends the benefits of Dante networking to a wide new range of audio devices.

Ultimo is targeted for use with powered speakers, microphones, speakerphones, amplifiers, paging stations, personal monitoring systems, A/V wall plates, recording interfaces, analogue/digital break-in/break out, and musical instruments.

The small-footprint solution uses high-quality, low-jitter clocks with ±1μs time alignment between networked devices, and includes established Dante features like automatic device discovery, plug-and-play networking, network-based firmware updates, and customisation of device names and channel labels.

Ultimo does not require specialised switches and works with existing network infrastructure.
