DiGiCo shows off its rack

Intended to support and expand the SD range of digital consoles, the D2-Rack from UK-based manufacturer DiGiCo was recently unveiled at the Pro Light & Sound exhibition in Frankfurt, alongside a new relationship with networking specialist Optocore. The new rack was described by managing director James Gordon as ‘opening up the full 96kHz potential of the SD8, SD9 and SD11 with this next generation of I/O conversion’.

The D2-Rack is supplied with either BNC or Cat-5 Madi connections, facilitating its use with a number of the manufacturer’s consoles. Though it contains the same convertors as found in the company’s SD Racks, the D2 is reportedly a ‘more compact, more efficient and more affordable’ solution for connection at either 48kHz or 96kHz with no I/O reduction.

Two I/O versions of the rack are available. The first offers 48 mic inputs, 16 line inputs and two blank output slots allowing an additional 16 outputs in the end-users desired format, with a choice of analogue, AES or Aviom. The second version includes 24 mic inputs, 24 AES inputs, 16 line outputs and, again, two blank output slots offering the same choice of formats as above.

Meanwhile DiGiCo has implemented a new version of Optocore software for all of its optically enabled consoles. The new format is intended to provide connectivity to X6R, DD2FR and DD4MR units, allowing Optocore devices to live on DiGiCo’s optical loop.

The manufacturer is currently the only console manufacturer to benefit from OEM Optocore and is running the native 2.21 Optocore protocol.
