Tascam has released the DR-2d portable digital recorder, offering 96kHz, 24-bit resolution audio recording as WAV or MP3 files to SD card. The new unit’s stereo condenser microphone has a 74dB SN ratio and a dual recording feature prevents overload by recording a second track at lower level. The DR-2d offers variable speed audition to slow down music without lowering the pitch. A metronome and digital effects are included, in addition to an overdub feature for sound-on-sound recording. Powered by two AA batteries or an optional PS-P520 power adapter, other features include loop playback mode, USB 2.0 connection for file transfer, eighth-inch stereo microphone and line inputs, an eighth-inch stereo headphone output, 128x64 backlit LCD and an integrated speaker.
The DR-08 portable recorder also records 96kHz, 24-bit WAV files or MP3 files to a 2Gb Micro SD media card. Two cardioid microphones with variable angle mechanism allow an adjustment of the width and angle of microphone elements, allowing the pattern to be tailored for recording. Like the DR-07, the DR-08 includes features such as auto level control and a low-cut filter, while a built-in kickstand allows the recorder to be positioned where required. The variable speed playback feature can adjust the playback speed from 50 per cent to 200 per cent without changing the pitch, while auto recording mode starts recording when the input reaches a certain sound level.
The DR-680 offers up to eight tracks of recording to be downloaded to an SD card media as 96kHz, 24-bit WAV files. Six microphone inputs provide phantom power and 60dB of gain for recordings with condenser microphones, which can be monitored using a built-in mixer with level and pan controls for each input. The stereo mix-down can even be recorded along with the six mics for quick stereo playback of the event and a built-in speaker negates the need for headphone monitoring. In addition to WAV recording up to 96kHz, the DR-680 captures stereo audio at 192kHz, 24 bits. There is a cascade function for running two units together and an auto-recording mode begins recording when the input reaches a certain level.
