EM Acoustics introduces the building block X3 system

EM Acoustics has announced its X3 horn loaded PA system, a companion to its Quake subwoofer.
Described by the manufacturer as a 20-degree ‘building block’, the X3 can be attached to another X3 to make up a desired coverage angle. The system comprises a horn-loaded 15-inch LF drive unit, a horn-loaded 8-inch MF drive unit and six 1-inch compression drivers on a bespoke waveguide, creating a horizontal line source which allows X3 enclosures to be tight-packed together to form arrays.
EM Acoustics claims that the result is a system that offers predictable horizontal coverage in any application, particularly those where high SPL is required. The X3 boasts a high SPL capacity and system headroom, as well as tightly controlled dispersion.
A drive test unit has been incorporated into the X3. A button is pushed on the rear of the box, powered by an integral 9V battery, giving a clear visual indication of a malfunction in any of the eight drive units. R&D director, Ed Kinsella is keen to state that ‘It's not intended to replace a proper kit prep measurement, but as a quick on-the-job fault finder it's invaluable.’
Each element is reportedly capable of delivering frequencies far in excess of the actual operating band, to ensure smooth crossovers between drive units. The manufacturer cites the low/mid horn as an example of this – stating that it has no parallel walls anywhere along its path, which when combined with the phase device loaded in front of the driver, produces a reported flat response of 500Hz.
