Extron introduces audio expansion processor and high-powered amp

Extron Electronics has released the AXP 50 C AT, a five-input audio expansion processor with Extron ProDSP for integrating remote microphones and other sources onto a Dante-enabled Extron DMP 128 audio system. The processor has been introduced in an attempt to ‘eliminate the effort and expense associated with pulling multiple cable runs from microphones in the meeting space to the digital signal processor in the equipment rack’.

Housed in 1U, half-rack width enclosure, a single ethernet cable to a central equipment rack can link multiple AXP 50 C AT units together. The amp provides 48V phantom power to its mic/line inputs, and features dedicated signal processing for each input –  including gain, filtering, dynamics, and acoustic echo cancellation (AEC). The unit’s DSP configuration software also allows the user to set up DSP parameters and AEC.

In an installation with a large number of mics, the AXP 50 C AT audio expansion processor places signals onto the Dante audio network using standard IP networking. Signals are received as expansion inputs at one or more DMP 128 AT processors. This reportedly enables a sound system designer to incorporate several AXP 50 C AT input expanders to create large mixing matrixes of remote inputs for DMP 128 AT processors using the built-in four-port gigabit switch.

In addition to the expansion processor, Extron has also introduced the XPA 1002 Plus, a half-rack, 1U, convection cooled power amplifier. The amplifier offers more power than the original XPA 1002 – two channels of 100W into 4- or 8-ohms – but features the same 105dB signal-to-noise ratio and 0.05 percent THD+N specifications.

Now certified as an Energy Star qualified amplifier, Extron states that the XPA 1002 Plus features its ‘exclusive highly efficient, advanced Class-D amplifier design, as well as its patented Class-D Ripple Suppression technology’ that ‘provides a smooth, clean audio waveform and an improvement in signal fidelity over conventional Class-D amplifiers’.

Housed in a half-rack width metal enclosure, the amp is compact in size, and weighs 1.1kg.
