Extrons SME 100 H264 promises to expand AV system capability

Extron Electronics’ new SME 100 is a live H.264 encoder for streaming audio, video, and computer-video signals.

Described by the manufacturer as a ‘cost-effective’ streaming solution suitable for the A/V market, the SME 100 employs H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC encoding, and outputs an IP stream that can be decoded and viewed on desktop or laptop PCs.

The SME 100 has been designed specifically to address the input requirements common to pro A/V applications, and according to Extron, by extending A/V signals over networks, the SME 100 significantly expands A/V system capability. It supports RGB or DVI input signals up to 1920 x 1200, as well as standard definition and high definition video up to 1080p/60.

The SME 100 also features an integrated three-input switcher with audio and buffered loop-through connections designed to simplify integration, whilst offering a range of compression and bit rate controls.

Meanwhile, Extron has also announced the release of the XTP CrossPoint platform for digital A/V systems, described as a ‘flexible, reliable’ signal switching and distribution system that provides a completely integrated solution for multiple digital and analogue formats.

Extron has incorporated audio management features into the XTP CrossPoint, including HDMI audio embedding and de-embedding, audio breakaway, and downmixing multi-channel formats. XTP CrossPoint Systems support local connectivity as well as extended transmission capability for sending high-resolution video, audio, RS-232, ethernet, and power up to 100M over a single CAT 5-type cable.

However, in a fully integrated XTP CrossPoint System with XTP transmitters and receivers, an overall transmission distance of 200M is possible between two remote endpoints. XTP CrossPoint matrix switchers are modular and expandable from 4x4 up to 16x16 or 32x32. Two desktop XTP receivers are available, both with HDMI outputs.

Also new from the manufacturer is the DVS 605, a video scaler that includes three HDMI 1.3-compatible inputs, two universal analogue video inputs with auto-format detection, and simultaneous HDMI and analogue high resolution outputs.

All DVS 605 models provide lip sync delay and level adjustments for embedded HDMI audio. The DVS 605 A and DVS 605 AD add five input audio switching to accompany incoming video sources, as well as audio breakaway.

With HDMI audio embedding and de-embedding, DVS 605 audio models can embed any input audio signal onto the HDMI output, and extract HDMI audio to analogue captive screw and digital S/PDIF outputs.

The DVS 605 is available in models with audio switching plus HDMI audio embedding / de-embedding, and also 3G-SDI/HD-SDI output with genlock.
