‘Faster than real time’ measurement from TC Electronic’s LM2 plug-in

TC Electronic has announced the release of the LM2 radar loudness meter plug-in. This acts as a dedicated stereo plug-in that supports all major associated formats – including AAX, RTAS and Audio Suite for Pro Tools as well as AU and VST.
Featuring the manufacturer’s ‘radar display’, the LM2 is suitable for monitoring real-time audio signals in addition to performing off-line measuring in Pro Tools as an Audio Suite plug-in. The manufacturer states that when used this way, loudness measuring can be completed ‘much faster than in real time’, needing only the CPU of a host computer to set the limit for off-line measurement speed.
Adding to the plug-in’s ‘real time’ appeal, true-peak levels are also displayed in this mode on the right side of the user interface. In addition to this, two descriptors can be set to reflect a variety of parameters, whilst each version of the radar can be set from one minute to 24 hours.
The LM2 plug-in is sold separately, but is also available as a bundle with TC Electronic’s LM2 rack-mountable hardware loudness meter.
In a further announcement, TC Electronic has added off-line measurement functionality to the LM6 radar loudness meter, again claiming ‘faster than real time’ off-line measuring with Audio Suite in Pro Tools. Existing LM6 users can upgrade to version 1.1 and gain access to the Audio Suite off-line feature.
After the track has been measured, LM6 displays the full loudness history of the track using the radar display. Complete loudness statistics, including programme loudness (LKFS/LUFS), loudness range and true-peak max then become instantly available. Completing the list of key features is the inclusion of a text-based log file that contains loudness range and programme loudness data.
