Feature packed, plug and play DJ mixer from Pioneer

Pioneer has released a new DJ mixer named the DJM-850, which has been equipped with a wealth of effects and ‘DJ favourite’ features, and includes what the manufacturer describes as an ‘industry first’ in the form of the Beat Colour effect.

Available in two colour choices, the ‘plug and play’ mixer features four channels and boasts 100 different effect combinations. Key to the new release is the Beat Colour effect, which uses side-chaining to facilitate further control of the manufacturer’s pre-existing colour effects. The new function works by ‘listening’ to the audio input of each channel and connecting the changes in volume to other parameters, allowing DJs to blend new sounds and effects into their mixes with ease.

Exclusive to the DJM-850 is Up Echo, which produces a more reserved and controllable mix, whilst the inclusion of FX Boost allows a user to choose from 13 enhanced beat effects. An EQ isolator is included on each channel, and the unit has been designed to feel familiar to DJs by following an industry standard layout.

With three sampling rates (comprising 96, 48, and 44.1kHz), the DJM-850 is also suited for music recording and production applications, and is compatible with the timecode feature on digital vinyl systems, such as Traktor. Its integrated four-stereo channel sound card has been designed to make set-up simple, and requires just one cable for connecting to PCs and laptops.

Meanwhile, Pioneer has also launched the RMX-1000 remix station: a three-in-one system comprising editing software, performance hardware and VST and AU plugins. The RMX-1000 can be used with mixers, CDJs and laptops in the booth, or with a PC in the studio for recording and producing.

Designed to offer studio grade effects and beatboxes with ‘the added physicality of pro-DJ equipment’, the unit’s control parameters can be modified using included remixbox software.

Controls are divided into four categories, comprising Scene FXM Isolator FX, X-Pad (boasting exclusive Pitch control), and Release FX. Between them, these effects allow DJs to build up and break down tracks by combining 10 types of effects, change the main audio input’s rhythm and timbre using hi-, mid- and low-frequency, whilst allowing a user to seamlessly exit complex effect combinations and return to the original track.
