First Kramer 4K distribution amplifier

With a maximum data rate of 10.2Gbps (3.4Gbps per channel), Kramer has debuted the VW-4HM, a 1:4 4K distribution amplifier for HDMI signals. The amplifier is able to relock and equalise a signal – extending travel distances – before distributing it to four identical outputs with resolutions up to Quad HD (3840x2160) at 24Hz with 8-, 10-, or 12-bit colour, and 30Hz with 8-bit colour.

The VM−4HN supports Deep Colour, x.v.Color, Lip Sync, HDMI uncompressed audio channels, Dolby TrueHD, DTS−HD, and CEC, with signal. The unit is HDCP compliant and features the manufacturer’s I−EDIDProT, an intelligent EDID handling and processing algorithm providing plug and play operation for HDMI systems. 

In addition to Quad HD support, the unit can handle WUXGA (1920x1200) up to 12-bit colour depth, and 1080p at all colour bit depths. The DigiTools enclosure features five HDMI connectors (one in, five out) as well as individually signal indicators, a 5V DC power connector (adapter included) and an EDID setup switch.

Meanwhile, the manufacturer’s latest ProScale digital scaler/switchers now come with built-in Mass Notification and Emergency Communication (MNEC. The feature means that in the event of an emergency, a notification will automatically be displayed on connected projection screens and monitors.

The notifications themselves have been designed for flexibility, with options such as the inclusion of an audio alert, and the choice of displaying either a text crawler or a text window. Crucially, the system can even be set to power up displays to ensure the delivery of messages – composed and transmitted using the XML-based Common Alert Protocol (CAP) application. According to the manufacturer, the switchers require only an Ethernet connection to the appropriate campus network.

Finally, an HDBaseT four-in-one twisted pair transmitter has been added to the manufacturer’s Step-In range. Named the SID−X2N, it is described by Kramer as ‘a high-performance, cost effective, step-in commander’. Working as a standalone unit with HDBaseT receivers using RS-232 commands over a twisted pair cable, it offers four input types in the shape of computer graphics video, HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort.
