Format mastering made easier with Rohde & Schwarz

Rohde & Schwarz is intending to make DCI and mezzanine format mastering easier with the latest version of its Clipster DI workstation.

Clipster also supports the IMF (Interoperable Master Format) mezzanine format, offering the complete set of SMPTE IMF standards including all sub-formats and CPL (Composition Playlist) support. The IMF package, which can be generated in Clipster, is used for B2B exchange and is now available in resolutions of up to 4K. The idea DCI wizard has also been implemented for IMF, guiding the user through each required step and generating the final IMF-compliant IMP (Interoperable Master Package). Different IMPs can also be merged, sent and archived courtesy of the integrated Merge Tool.

The latest toolset for AS-02 also offers key enhancements meaning users can now read/write AS-02 in addition to converting closed captions into and from .SCC files in Clipster. This mezzanine format is also used in the industry for contribution and increasingly as a replacement for tape. The new high frame rate DCP enhancements in Clipster offer new types of cinematic experiences using a frame rate of 48fps in 3D projects (resp. 96fps) instead of the usual 24fps. Movements appear crisper and smoother to the viewer as the high frame rate eliminates critical image issues, thus creating an immersive experience without the previously known side effects.

The Hanover-based manufacturer has also enhanced its SpycerBox storage solution with the inclusion of SSD. SpycerBox now offers an internal data-transfer speed performance of up to 12GB.

The central SpycerBox storage solution integrates into any storage environment providing a new level of speed with a QuadPort 8GB fibre channel, which has been integrated as standard. An additional 10GB Ethernet uplink can be saturated with ease, without any drop in performance or other impairments, allowing SpycerBox to handle up to 8K workflows.

The newly developed SAN Remo management can be controlled remotely, offering configuration of all hardware and software components amongst other features. System status can be monitored in addition to performance analysis and bandwidth statistics, whilst configurable e-mail or SMS notifications can also be received.
