FW-100 aims for improved intercom connections

German intercom specialist axxent has released the FW-100 four wire interface to facilitate communication between two wire partyline systems and four wire intercoms.

According to the manufacturer, partyline (or two wire) systems are most widely used in audio and lighting applications whilst broadcasters use four wire designs – the FW-100 is intended to provide a connection between the two with the added bonus of visible call signals (tally) from and to the systems.

Connection to the partyline side is via two three-pin XLR connectors, (male and female for loop through), whilst the four wire system is linked via a DB9 plug, (two wires to the system, and two from the system). In addition, two unshielded wires allow for signals from the four wire via a contact switch. Any echo created by this connection can be cancelled by three potentiometers on the front of the unit. The FW-100 also provides the ability to extract and insert an auxiliary audio signal out of a partyline system.
