Genelec unveils world’s first AoIP monitor

Claiming to be the world’s first audio-over-IP studio monitor, the 8430 Smart Active Monitor was one of the highlight launches at ISE 2016. The AES67-equipped speaker accepts IP signals via its integrated XLR-housing RJ-45 ethernet connection but also includes balanced XLR connector for standard analogue audio signals. Like other SAM models, the 8430 features Genelec’s Minimum Diffraction Enclosure and Directivity Control Waveguide technologies, an airflow optimised reflex port and uses the Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) 2.0 control network software for adjustment of all of the monitor’s settings. Integrated in GLM 2.0 is AutoCal, which automatically aligns all speakers on the network for level and timing, as well as room response compensation. Sonically, the manufacturer promises ‘very low distortion, high SPL and a wide uncoloured response’.

The Finnish manufacturer has also launched a frameless grille version of its AIW26 in-wall speaker solution. Named AIW26B, the solution is designed to better blend in with the surrounding aesthetics of a room. It consists of a bass reflex two-way speaker enclosure – housing a 6.5-inch woofer and 3/4–inch tweeter – and a matched RAM1 remote amplifier module. The RAM1 includes a series of room response controls to tune the speaker’s acoustic performance to the room, and the speaker’s mesh can be painted to match the wall colour. The speaker fits into a standard 1.2m x 0.6m wall structure while the RAM1 amp can be rack mounted with an optional RM1 Rack Mount Kit.

Lastly, Genelec’s 4000 series installation speakers can now be specially ordered with finishes in more than 120 RAL colours, helping to fit aesthetically into any installation.
