Greater Clarity from TC Electronic

Aiming to solve speech intelligibility issues within broadcasting, TC Electronic has debuted Clarity X, a multi-format monitoring system which it describes as offering ‘a palette of dedicated metering and calibration tools to help engineers make the right mixing decisions’. The system comprises a measurement microphone for monitor calibration, a 1U processor offering a suite of metering tools, and a remote control.

At the heart of the system is a suite of metering tools including a loudness-based stereo deviation meter that reflects how well a surround mix will translate into stereo. Other meters include a centre ratio meter, the LM8 loudness radar meter, a true-peak meter, an SPL meter and a dose per cent meter. Meanwhile a patent pending SPL measurement technology that reportedly works without a microphone has been incorporated. It enables the system to gather information on how much SPL an engineer is exposed to over time and then express that information as a percentage of the maximum safe dose.

As default, Clarity X comes with AES I/O though the manufacturer stresses that it can also be expanded via Madi while any monitor with digital or analogue inputs can be connected to the system.
