HAL is evolving
Published: PRODUCTS
Rane has added five new products to its HAL series of open architecture DSP products for use in room combining, paging and distributed audio systems.
The new HAL1x Expansion Bus between the EXP1x, EXP3x and EXP5x expansion products can now support up to 512 inputs and 512 outputs, thus expanding the number and size of supported applications exponentially. Up to 32 EXP devices can be daisy chained in any order, for which the latency of a single EXP hop is just 750ns, making a latency of just 22.4ms across 32 devices.
Multi-room and campus facilities can spread HAL devices between distant equipment rooms as the HAL Expansion Bus has been extended to 100m for copper Cat- 5e. Gigabit Ethernet media converters are supported allowing kilometres between EXP devices.
The RAD27 USB audio sound card integrates PC and iPad audio into professional HAL installations without needing to add isolation transformers or analogue interfaces. The RAD27 transports digital audio to and from any HAL device up to 100m away over shielded Cat-5e and can simultaneously playback and record USB audio for presentation podiums or web-based meetings. BGM and recorded announcements can be played from any PC into any HAL device and with no drivers to install the RAD27 is instantly compatible with Apple and all versions of Windows.
The Halogen software application which is central to designing, configuring and controlling the HAL audio system has also been updated. Halogen’s graphical user interface simplifies the design and configuration process, whilst the software manages global tasks such as discovering, connecting to and applying configurations to HAL devices. Version 3.0 is now available for download.
