IK promises unique approach to mastering with Lurssen console

Developed in collaboration with mastering engineer Gavin Lurssen, Reuben Cohen and the staff of US Lurssen Mastering in Los Angeles, the Lurssen Mastering Console from IK Multimedia is intended to appeal to users ‘of all skill levels’.
Available for iPad, Mac or PC, the software boasts parameters that can be recalled as 20 different styles based on the processing chains of the renowned mastering engineers. The developer describes the software as ‘condensing many decades' worth of mastering experience into a single, easy to use solution’.
Other features include 88.2/96kHz processing, a GUI based on the Lurssen Mastering facility, an input drive knob, five band EQ and ‘push’ knob, which reportedly lets users ‘ride’ the flow of the song, making subtle and uniform EQ adjustments to enhance dynamics. Adjustments to the input gain and push knob can be recorded and automated, while EQ changes be saved on top of the Lurrsen presets.
Also new from IK are its 50W iLoud micro monitors, described by the company as the ‘smallest reference monitoring system in the world’. Included are two ultra-compact bi-amplified Class-D speakers, each comprising a ¾-inch silk dome tweeter, a 3-inch paper cone woofer and a bass reflex port. Also onboard is 56-bit DSP with three EQ switches – treble, bass and a ‘desktop’ toggle for use depending on the mixing environment. Connectivity is via either RCA or 1/8-inch wired connections, or Bluetooth.
