iLive arrives on the iPad

iLive MixPad is the name of the new Allen & Heath iPad app for its iLive digital mixing system, enabling users to connect to an iLive console on a wireless network and control it remotely.

Among the console functions that can be operated by the new app – available from the Apple iPad store – are channel faders and mutes, DCA faders and mutes, image controls, aux sends, channel processing, mic-pre control and full metering. Channel processing encompasses high-pass filters, gates, parametric and graphic EQs, compressors, limiters/de-essers and delays. The software also contains system set-up features including channel assignments, a real-time analyser and the ability to name and colour channel strips.

The launch follows the recent release of the iLive Tweak app for iPhone users. However, Glenn Rogers, managing director of Allen & Heath, explains that the company is particularly enthused about the iPad platform: ‘As soon as we saw the iPad we were excited by the prospect of giving our iLive customers portable, intuitive control for mixing a show. In certain situations this app could even replace the console altogether, especially when supported by a PC or Mac for accessing setup features using iLive Editor software.’

The manufacturer has also released v1.8 of the iLive firmware and editor, offering it for download on its website. The update includes support for the xDR-16 expander hardware and the aforementioned MixPad app, alongside a new scene saving options, auto-increment options and additional compressor types. More critically, the iLive effects system now features a larger I/O routing capability, while each effects unit has extended I/O functionality.

Finally, v1.8 allows third-party control over TCP/IP to enable the use of touch panels and controllers – as well as Allen & Heath's PL series wallplates – to control elements of the iLive system. The release also adds MIDI control capability to the iLive Editor.
