Installed systems additions and more from AKG

AKG has unveiled its latest addition to its installed systems with the launch of the Discreet Acoustics Modular PLUS series.

With a wide range of goosenecks and installation modules available, compatible with existing CS5 modules, the Discreet Modular PLUS series offers optimal adaptation for a variety of room applications and speakers, with quick microphone capsule exchanges. The models’ LED ring reduces the risk of operating errors, whilst sturdy material reduces fatigue and improved protection from signal block outs.

The LED ring uses customised circuitry allowing it to operate off standard phantom power, as two separate leads carry supply voltage and provide extra shielding to the audio signal. The interface module, which comes with a self cleaning connector, connects the gooseneck to the phantom power source, adding flexibility to all mounting modules.

Also new is the CK43 supercardioid condenser, which provides a 95-degree pickup angle, and the CK49 reference condenser capsule with an 80-degree pickup, which is intended for use by inexperienced speakers, focusing on the voice when the speaker is distant, and reducing pop if close to the microphone. The GN155M gooseneck is a 155cm module with a heavy, shock-mount floor stand that can operate as a stand-alone unit or on stages placed in front of a large group of instruments or speakers. The HM1000M is a reference-hanging module used to fly microphones from the ceiling to record or reinforce music or speech in venues.

Comprising two matching small diaphragm condenser mics, with cardioid polar patterns, the P170 stereo set extends AKG’s Perception series and studio sets by the Austrian microphone manufacturer. Each pair is selected from a large quantity of individual mics to create a matched pair that enables convincing studio recordings. The P170 stereo comes with an attenuation pad, allowing the recording of loud instruments such as drums or brass.

The PAE M reference powering module offers phantom power courtesy of a gold-plated, 3-pin XLR connector, for which its wide voltage range fits most microphone mixers. PAESP M is a programmable power module for fixed and mobile installations, fitted with a binary coded decimal switch to recall operating modes. PAESP M’s noiseless microphone switch reduces its level by 26dB, avoiding the crackling sound when phantom power is interrupted. The PAE5 M provides a 5-pin XLR connection offering audio signal and central voltage to be fed separately.

Finally, the Perception headphone series has been extended with three new models. The over-ear, semi-closed design of the K44 Perception provides a powerful low end and clean highs for an excellent sound, ranging from project studios to home recording. The K77 Perception is an over-ear, semi-closed headphone offering for home or project studios. Both models include leatherette ear pads and a self-adjusting headband for extended wear, without discomfort together with a 3m fixed, straight cable and convertible jack. The K99 is an over-ear, semi-open headphone.
