IO 4K provides support for new Mac Pro

AJA Video Systems Io 4K has begun shipping, including support for Thunderbolt 2 and 4K workflows for use with the latest generation Mac Pro.

Two Thunderbolt 2 ports are included on the unit, which can be daisy-chained with other peripherals, and which, crucially, provides support for 4K video output at 10-bit quality for Apple’s latest Mac Pro. Four bi-directional 3G-SDI connectors, an HDMI input and separate output, as well as simultaneous SDI and HDMI outputs also feature on the rear panel.

A DB-25 connector provides multi-channel analogue audio output, while the SDI and HDMI connections are capable of handling up to 16- and 8-channels of embedded audio respectively. Audio monitoring is via dual-RCA connectors, whilst visuals can be monitored through the SDI monitor output. Power for the unit comes from an external PSU fed into the 12V XLR connector on the rear.

In addition to operating solely as a video capture and playback interface (supporting 4K, 3G-SDI, Dual Link, HD-SDI and SD-SDI, as well as UHD and HD over HDMI 1.4a for both capture and output), the Io 4K allows for real-time scaling of 4K into 2K and UltraHD to HD.
