Peavey Electronics has launched the IPR DSP Series of power amplifiers
Peavey Electronics has launched the IPR DSP Series of power amplifiers, which are the first to use the Waves MX5010 semiconductor, incorporating MaxxBass bass extension, MaxxTreble high frequency enhancement, seven-band paragraphic MaxxEQ, MaxxStereo and MaxxVolume level control. IPR Series amplifiers are designed with a resonant switch-mode power supply and class-D topology. The four DSP-equipped models are equipped with 32-bit, floating-point DSP with programme-specific EQ presets. The Waves MX5010 semiconductor integrates a 24-bit DSP core with pre-programmed MaxxAudio algorithms. MaxxVolume protects the speaker and electrical components from electric surges and speaker fatigue without requiring a dedicated limiter, while the unit’s delay function can be used to create programmable speaker arrays and delay towers without an external delay module. MaxxTreble can be used to enhance high frequencies dynamically without ‘painful’ high-end, and both MaxxEQ and MaxxBass can be used for designing efficient and programmable active crossovers for both amplifiers and powered speakers. The MX5010's router section can be used to control levels for multiple speaker outputs, also allowing the user to create presets for various I/O scenarios.
The manufacturer is also now shipping the Impulse 12D powered loudspeaker, which incorporates a true ribbon driver providing 90° H x 30° V coverage and a 12-inch Peavey Black Widow woofer incorporating a dual voice coil and a neodymium magnet. A Woofer Servo circuit monitors back-EMF and controls cone motion, ensuring the cone’s movement mirrors the driving signal from the power amp. The Impulse 12D incorporates IPR power amplifier technology, incorporating switch-mode power supply and a high-speed class-D topology to produce 1.2kW of power.
The input section features two input channels and a line output, with a mix of connection options, including combination XLR/quarterinch jacks, RCA and Phoenix connections. Input channels 1 and 2 also come with mic/ line source switches and gain controls. The Auto-Off function automatically shuts off the power when it no longer detects a signal, while the Line Out can chain multiple units or send the input signal to another source. The DynaQ section offers advanced tone controls such as Bass Enhancer, a Music/Speech switch that provides optimised EQ settings for each audio type and Contour, (program music). A module bay allows for future expansion including wireless I/O, delay/time adjustment, mixer expander, and Ethernet I/O. The Impulse 12D is housed in a durable, injection-moulded enclosure that includes a pole mount, three flying points and a tilt-back design to facilitate use as a personal monitor.
