iZotope Introduces Nectar and Stutter Edit

iZotope, Inc. has announced Nectar, a new plug–in which includes a complete vocal processing toolkit.

Users can select from Nectar’s range of professionally designed vocal production styles powered by 11 processing modules, and can then customise their choice with faders. To customise the vocal sound further, users can switch to the Advanced View and access all of the controls of the underlying modules that power the plug-in.

Nectar’s features include; Pitch Correction, Breath Control, Compressors, DeEsser, Doubler, Saturation, EQ, Gate, Limiter, Delay, and Reverb modules. Among other innovations, Breath Control offers users a target mode, which allows them specify the desired level of breaths detected in the track. Pitch Correction includes both auto and graphical pitch editing controls.

iZotope Nectar is aimed at audio engineers, voice over artists, singer/songwriters, recording enthusiasts, podcasters, and anyone who records spoken vocals.

Designed by BT and developed by iZotope, the Stutter Edit is a tool intended for both studio and stage use.

Stutter Edit’s features revolve around an engine that continuously samples live audio, storing the audio in a buffer that can be manipulated in a number of ways.

Stutter Edit includes the Gestures feature: a set of effects and their associated timelines that reside on a single Midi note. The audible result of a Gesture can vary from simple to complex – a Gesture could simply repeat a small chunk of audio at an 1/8 note rhythmic rate, or it could trigger a run of glitches with a bit crusher effect before being filtered into a wash of echoes.

Composer, technologist, and 53rd Grammy Award nominee, Brian Transeau (BT) is also renowned for pioneering the Stutter Edit as a musical technique. When first conceived, the Stutter Edit required hours of meticulous labour, so BT searched for tools that would help unleash a more effective version. Using Mr Transeau’s real-world experiences, the design has continuously evolved with new features and refined usability.

In 2010, BT partnered with iZotope, which has now built the technology into a complete product—compatible with both PC and Mac OS X platforms, as well as major music production and performance hosts.

Stutter Edit is a suitable complement to programs like Ableton Live for revitalising remixes or arrangements.
