Izotope releases Ozone 5

Izotope has released version five of its Ozone mastering system. Key features in this version include maximiser, equaliser, multiband dynamics, multiband stereo imaging, post equaliser, multiband harmonic exciter, reverb and dithering. The manufacturer states that in Ozone 5 every module has been updated with refined signal processing algorithms.

The changes for the new version are reportedly based on feedback and requests gathered from mastering professionals. Ozone 5 Advanced includes controls and features such as the meter bridge suite and six individual component plug-ins based on Ozone’s mastering modules.

Ozone 5’s new meter bridge provides a suite of customisable audio analysis tools to visually monitor a mix throughout the mastering process. It also serves as an educational device for anyone hoping to learn more about the art of mastering. Building on visualisations from Ozone’s individual modules, the meter bridge includes an array of new metering tools in a configurable window.

A broad variety of updated metering tools provide visualisations of how mix elements fit together. Each processing module is complemented with spectrums, phase meters, vectorscopes and level histograms. These include E Meter Tap plug-ins for visually analysing multiple streams of track and bus audio data; High-resolution real-time 2D and 3D Spectrogram plots and a real-time, resizable Spectrum Analyzer; and enhanced Loudness Meters with BS.1770-2, EBU, K-System, True Peak, and RMS options.

The manufacturer describes its new mastering system as ‘combining the best nuances of both analogue and digital worlds’. This includes analogue-modelled processing combined with linear phase precision; flexible sonic capabilities for adding warmth, bite, punch, and space to the mix; a new IRC III Limiter; a revamped hybrid reverb module; additional reverb room models and circuit-modelled exciter modes; true envelope peak detection and detection circuit filters in the dynamics module; and a mixed-phase EQ mode.
Izotope has also made workflow enhancements to Ozone 5. These include a preset manager with over 250 professionally-designed presets; new per-module presets and intelligent module amount controls; user-definable signal routing and automation support.
